How Cashless Hospitalisation Works?

Cashless hospitalisation is a hospitalisation facility where the policyholder is not required to pay the bills for his hospitalisation. This service is made available by a health insurance company to its policyholders who avail treatment at a network hospital of the insurance company. The hospitalisation bills are settled by the insurance company directly provided the policyholder informs the company about the hospitalisation within the defined timelines. There are two types of cashless hospitalisation;

Planned hospitalisation

In this type, the hospitalisation is already planned to avail of treatment prescribed by the doctor, and the insured needs to inform the insurer 48 hours before the hospitalisation to avail of cashless treatment.

Unplanned or Emergency hospitalisation

In this type, hospitalisation is unplanned and is required due to an emergency and the insured needs to inform the insurer within 24 hours of hospitalisation to avail of a cashless facility.

Important Points To Note Before Filing A Cashless Claim

Even after having the best cashless health insurance your claim can get rejected if you do not take care of certain important points.

  1. Compare the estimated cost of your treatment with your coverage amount. If the treatment cost is more than the coverage amount, you will have to pay the excess amount from your pocket. Alternatively, you can apply for a super top-up mediclaim to enhance your coverage.
  2. Check the waiting periods specified in the policy. If you file a claim during the waiting period it will be rejected.
