ABHA number is a 14 digit number that will uniquely identify you as a participant in India’s digital healthcare ecosystem. ABHA number will establish a strong and trustable identity for you that will be accepted by healthcare providers and payers across the country

ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) Address is a unique identifier (self declared username) that enables you to share and access your health records digitally. Your ABHA address may look like ‘yourname@consent manager’.For instance, xyz@abdm is a ABHA address with ABDM Consent Manager that will facilitate health data exchange for you with appropriate consent on the ABDM network

You can use your ABHA number to seamlessly sign up for a ABHA address, and ensure that the health records created for you are shared only with you. To enable health data sharing, it is recommended that you create ABDM ABHA address and link it with your ABHA number.

You can participate at your own free will and choose to create your ABHA number voluntarily. Also, at any time, you can also request for permanent deletion or temporary deactivation of your ABHA number

faq

Any citizen/patient who wishes to participate in ABDM must start by creating the Ayushmaan Bharat Health Account (ABHA). ABHA Number, similar to a bank account number, is a randomly generated 14 digit number used for the purposes of uniquely identifying persons and authenticating them, and linking their health records across multiple systems and stakeholders.

This is an easy to remember username in the format - xyz@abdm. The ABHA Address is linked to an ABHA Number. While ABHA Number is similar to a Bank Account Number, ABHA Address is similar to a UPI ID.

A user can only have one ABHA Number. However, a user can create multiple ABHA Addresses linked to a single ABHA Number. While ABHA Number is similar to a Bank Account Number, ABHA Address is similar to a UPI ID.

There are multiple ways through which an ABHA can be created. 1. Citizens can visit the ABHA portal - abha.abdm.gov.in and create ABHA by following the online process. 2. They can also download the ABHA app or any ABDM partner app (such as Aarogya Setu, Driefcase, Ekacare etc) to self-register for ABHA. 3. ABHA is also created by various Central and State Government programmes like CoWin, NCD, RCH, Nikshay, etc which are providing health services to the millions of citizens. 4. ABHA can also be created in assisted mode by hospitals, Customer Service Centres, etc. whenever a citizen visits these places.

ABHA Number can be generated through biometric authentication (fingerprint/ face) also. The Face authentication option is available on the ABHA android app and the fingerprint option is provided by ABDM partners like Government programmes, public and private hospitals, etc.

ABHA helps you digitize your health records and eliminate the hassle of carrying physical copies to doctor visits. ABHA helps you collate your lifetime records in a digital account and help you manage your health better. ABDM is also providing other facilities through ABHA such as hospital discovery, faster appointment booking, etc.

Yes, one mobile number can be linked with up to 6 ABHA Numbers. The linked mobile number is used for communication and authentication purposes.

Government Programmes can collect citizen data in areas with limited or no connectivity and create ABHA for these citizens. Previously, the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of Uttar Pradesh had created ABHAs for their citizens using this method.

The ABHA Card is not to be confused with the Ayushman Card. ABHA is the identity of the individual in the digital health ecosystem established by the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission whereas the Ayushman Card is issued under the AB-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and enables its beneficiaries to avail health insurance.

Users can login to their Ayushmaan Bharat Health Account at abha.abdm.gov.in using mobile number and retrieve ABHA number. The portal also gives users the option to download and print their ABHA card.

The concept of ABHA Number in the digital health ecosystem is similar to the concept of bank account number in the financial sector. Just like a bank account linked to Aadhaar KYC, is used for financial transactions, similarly an ABHA linked to Aadhaar or any other KYC document is used for digital health transactions. Hence Aadhaar cannot be used in place of ABHA Number.

After initiating the request for ABHA number creation using Driving Licence, the citizen will obtain an Enrolment Number on the portal. The citizen must visit the nearest ABDM participating facility and get their identity manually verified by the facility staff to obtain an ABHA number

ABDM does not store any health records. Citizens’ health records are stored with their healthcare information providers as per their retention policies, and are shared over the ABDM network with encryption mechanisms only after express consent of the citizen.
