Understand How Your Locality Affects Health Insurance Premium

Healthcare expenses vary across Indian cities and towns. Metropolitan areas often incur higher medical costs, contrasting with towns and non-metro cities, where healthcare expenses tend to be relatively more affordable. For instance, medical treatment required for a 2-day hospitalisation may be higher in the national capital, New Delhi, than in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. So, getting similar health insurance premiums may not be possible for people living in different parts of the country. This is when zone-based health insurance such as Care Classic becomes important. Let's dig deeper into how different zones work in defining insurance premium.

What are Zones in Health Insurance?

India is divided into three major zones based on the population of the cities and various other factors. These zones are also utilised by health insurance companies to offer zone-based health insurance plans. Based on the zone your location falls in, you may pay 10-20% less premium if the medical cost of the city is low. Check out more details about what is zone 1 and zone 2 in health insurance:

  • Zone 1: Delhi (including Faridabad), Mumbai, Surat, Thane, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Noida, Ahmedabad, and Baroda.
  • Zone 2: Pune, Bangalore, Nasik, all the cities of Gujarat
  • Zone 3: Rest of the cities of India.

You may now have an idea of how insurance zones in India are divided. Zone 1 has the highest premium.

Care Classic is a comprehensive and extensive health insurance plan available for individuals and families as well. With a sum insured of up to ₹15 lakhs, what makes Care Classic an ideal choice is its zone-based premium plans. Yes, depending on your health insurance zones in India, the premium for your health plan will be decided.

The premium for health insurance is affected by various factors like age, existing diseases of the insured, medical history, and the location of the insured. So, to ensure each insured pays for what service they avail, the Care Classic health policy aims to plan premiums that suit the medical costs of the particular location.

At Care Health Insurance, all the cities of India are divided into three zones. At the time of purchasing the policy, the executive will explain the zone in which your city falls. The premiums are charged accordingly. Zone 1 has the highest premium, followed by Zone 2 and Zone 3.
