Oman has launched an ambitious new Cultural Visa, opening its doors to global artists, researchers, and creative professionals. This visa, which began on November 10, 2025, allows for long-term residency in a specific cultural category.

What is the Cultural Visa?

Under Decision No. 156/2025, foreign nationals arriving in Oman for cultural purposes can apply for a visa named Cultural Visa through a recognised local sponsor, such as the Ministry of Culture, universities, or cultural institutions.

Who is Eligible?

This visa aims to attract a wide range of cultural contributors, including artists, writers, designers, musicians, researchers, curators, and more, to create in the Sultanate.

Activities included are:

  • Artistic training and cultural exchange,
  • Academic or research collaboration in arts, heritage, and culture,
  • Participation in cultural festivals, conferences, exhibitions, or literary events,
  • There is also a joining visa for spouses and first-degree relatives.

Duration & Fees

The visa is available for 1, 5, or 10 years, which makes it one of the most flexible long-term residency options in the region.

The cost is OMR 50 per year (roughly ₹11,500) for the main applicant. Family members pay OMR 10 for 1 year and OMR 50 for 5 or 10 years annually.

Key Conditions of the Cultural Visa

Before applying for the Oman Cultural Visa, keep the following conditions in mind:

  • The visa must be used within 3 months of issuance; otherwise, it becomes invalid.
  • A local sponsor, such as a cultural body, must take responsibility for the applicant.
  • To keep the visa, holders may need to re-enter Oman periodically.

Why is Oman Doing This?

This visa aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040, aiming to promote cultural openness, knowledge exchange, and strengthen the country’s creative economy. By attracting international talent, Oman hopes to position itself as a hub for arts, heritage, and intellectual collaboration.
