India has introduced a new electronic business visa category for Chinese nationals. This aims to simplify travel for specific industrial and commercial activities. Many see this as another step in the gradual improvement of people-to-people and trade relations between India and China.
India has introduced an e-Production Investment Business Visa, known as the e-B-4 visa. This visa is intended for Chinese business travellers visiting India for specific work-related purposes. It became effective on January 1, 2026. Applicants can apply entirely online. They do not need to visit the Indian Embassy or use intermediaries.

The e-B-4 visa covers various business activities related to production and industrial collaboration. According to the advisory mentioned by Indian and international media, it can be used for:
The visa should be issued in about 45 to 50 days. Visitors will be allowed to stay in India for up to six months. While the digital application offers significant convenience, some observers have noted that the long processing time may be a drawback for urgent business needs.
Applicants must submit their visa application via the official Indian e-visa portal, in the “e-Visa” section, and upload the required supporting documents. Indian companies inviting Chinese nationals must also register through the DPIIT National Single Window System (NSWS) as part of the process.

The launch comes as India and China work to rebuild their relationship. This includes focusing on people and restarting travel and exchange programs. According to international reports cited by experts, the visa is a good initiative, but they stress that additional supportive measures may be necessary for long-term cooperation.
While the e-business visa for Chinese nationals does not indicate a complete normalisation of travel, it represents a careful and strategic opening. For businesses on both sides, it provides a fresh way to communicate, explore, and work together in a more connected economic environment. Additionally, the move supports India’s goal of becoming a more accessible destination for global business.
